Juncos’ Early History
Eventually, Juncos was founded at the request of Tomás Pizarro on August 2, 1797.
Before that, during the 17th century, large parts of the area belonged to the Hato Grande de Los Delgado (The Delgados’ Great Ranch). In addition, another ranch called Hato del Valenciano operated in the region. Later, people divided that ranch into Hatillo de Los Lirios and Hatillo de Los Juncos.
Eventually, Hatillo de Los Juncos developed into the village of Juncos during the 18th century. Finally, on August 2, 1797, officials granted the community official town status.

Ecclesiastical Documents
Ecclesiastical archives are collections of documents, records, and memorials. In general, these records describe the origin, foundation, growth, and history of a place or religious institution. In addition, they may include information about the rights, privileges, and rules of a diocese, parish, monastery, or religious community.
Furthermore, the Church maintains these archives under its authority. Because of this, they can provide valuable historical and genealogical information. However, many of these documents are difficult to read due to their age, handwriting, and condition. Even so, researchers may still find them worth exploring.
