Introduction

The Genealogy of Juan Eusebio Bonilla Salcedo.” When I first discovered the story of Juan Eusebio Bonilla Salcedo, I was both fascinated and saddened. Unfortunately, his life came to an untimely and tragic end on June 30, 1890, in Yauco, Puerto Rico.

My main reason for writing about Juan Eusebio Salcedo and the Bonilla family is the false claims about his genealogy. Inaccurate information about him on genealogical sites for years was ongoing. As a result, I felt it was time to correct all the misinformation.

Not once have I made it my mission to claim a desire to connect to him and his ancestors. And this is not to take away anyone who can rightfully claim him as one of their own, directly or indirectly. Instead, it is about connecting his living descendants to his present-day relatives. Reading about his life story will undoubtedly give you an appreciation for this family.

Genealogy of Juan Eusebio Bonilla Salcedo

I am not going to great lengths on Juan Eusebio’s genealogy. But my goal is to provide factual information to those requesting assistance. In addition, locating the documents is a great starting point for those wanting to expand their research.

Juan Eusebio Bonilla Salcedo was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, on September 4, 1851, to Marcos Bonilla Torres and Rita Salcedo Sánchez. He had a brother named Juan Antonio Bonilla Salcedo, born on February 7, 1849. Please note that Juan Antonio is not a twin to Juan Eusebio, as erroneously suggested in a blog posted by someone who wrongly claimed ancestry to him.

Marcos’, parents are Hilario de Bonilla de la Vega and María de la Paz de Torres de Almodovar. Paternal grandparents are Casimiro de Bonilla and Catarina de la Vega. And maternal grandparents are Estebán de Torres and Manuela de Almodovar.

Juan’s mother is Rita Salcedo Sánchez, and her parents are Toribio Salcedo Medina & María del Rosario Sánchez de la Vargas. His paternal grandparents are Juan José Salcedo and Francisca Medina. Rita’s maternal grandparents are Pedro Sánchez and Gabriela de la Vargas.

Why should we care?

Have you ever asked yourself, who will remember me 200 years from now? I have many times. I believe this is why we continuously work on our family trees. Discovering our ancestors’ documents and locating families we had never heard of makes it worthwhile.

I’ve located family members lost in time. And no one would have known they existed if it were not for my research. For example, my grandparents had siblings who died as infants. Locating these family members has given them a rightful place in our family tree. Questioning, confronting, confirming, and breaking down brick walls allows us to grow our family tree. It’s not about us; it’s about them.

Sometimes it’s frustrating to realize you may have the wrong people in your tree. However, what an accomplishment when you finally get it right. And how fantastic when someone takes an interest in your genealogy and helps you research and discover the family you never knew you had. Be thankful for that.

Assisting others in finding their actual ancestors is what I do best. So many had aided me when I embarked on this journey. Learning from Historians, Genealogists, Professors, Authors, and even family elders has allowed me to be the researcher I am. Paying it forward and helping others is always rewarding. However, it should never be about self-recognition or acknowledgment.

Conclusion

I’m delighted that I have been able to unravel Juan Eusebio’s family tree. If you read my other articles, I also corrected the multiple erroneous trees for several men. The genealogic trees for Marcos José Bonilla, Marcos Bonilla Torres, and Marcos Bonilla Bonilla have all been researched and corrected.

As many have copied these erroneous genealogical trees for decades, it was satisfying to correct them finally. Thus, many have benefited from my research.

My mission has always been to help others find their ancestors. Unfortunately, many don’t realize they have the wrong ancestors in the case above, where many have confused the Bonilla family for so long. I am pleased to have helped many by providing them with accurate ancestral lines and honoring their ancestors simultaneously.
