Early History
On April 7, 1838, Ceiba was founded by Luis de la Cruz. It’s named from the Indian word Seyba, the name for a famous tree that grows on the island, the Ceiba pentandra (Kapok tree). The name of the church for this town is San Antonio de Padua. The municipality can be found along the northeastern coast of the island south of Fajardo. Ceiba was consolidated with Fajardo in 1899.
Personal Notes
Although a small collection of church records, the collection is complete. Since Ceiba became part of Fajardo in 1899, I suggest you look for your ancestors there. Finally, indexes are available for most books, which is good. (Fajardo Indexes)
