The Bonilla line is very common in Puerto Rico. Each town has its variation of this surname. For instance, in Coamo you may find it combined with a Bonilla and a Torres. In Yauco you will find it combined with Limardo or Salcedo. But you also find them combined with Perez and Rodríguez as far back as the 17th century.
Many researchers confuse these families. So I have written these articles to clear up the confusion. One of those families that I have written about was a man by the name of Don Juan Eusebio who was from Yauco. He was being confused with two other men from a different town. These two men have the same first names, Don Marcos. Although they share an identical first name and first surname, they both have a different second surname. They are not related to each other. My articles have cleared up these confusions.
DNA has shown a relationship between the modern-day descendants of these Bonillas throughout the island. But sadly the lack of church records make it a challenge to prove this.
